Once again this year the Lake Don Pedro Baptist Church hosted almost 500 community residents to the Hacienda for a wonderful evening of food, sharing blessings around the table and just coming together as a community. Everyone left with full tummies and a glad heart. Thanks to Helen Miller and the entire team that planned and working so hard to make this year's dinner another great event.
On Nov. 7th a large crowed joined us for a great pot-luck dinner and lots of stories were told around the tables about veterans and their service to our country. Many of our guest were veterans, a couple from WWII, some from the Korean War and others from Vietnam, Desert Storm, Afghanistan, and other deployments around the world. From a full bird Colonel to Regular Army enlisted men and women all joined as one. Pastor Hans offered a prayer for all those who served and are still serving. Pastor Paul gave a brief message of thanks for the veterans as well. Thanks to all who worked to make this a great evening.
Susie, our Bible School Director, hosted a dinner to thank all of our teacher for their dedicated service. Present were teachers from our Children's Departement, Youth Ministries and our Adult Small Groups. Each week these teachers take time to plan, prepare and present lessons for their classes and often their efforts go unnoticed. So we wanted to let them all know how important they are to our mission and that their faithfulness is appreciated.

Five of us headed out Friday to tackle Half Dome. One of the world's most iconic peaks, it rises almost 5000 feet from Yosemite Valley and provides a spectular view of many of the great peaks in the area. In order to reach the top you have to ascend the last 400 feet by cables. It is an exciting and challenging adventure. Here are a couple pictures. For more go to www.majestyadventures.com
Fuge was a great time of fun, but also learning, ministering, and growing. Check out the Youth page for more information and slide show.
This year's VBS theme was Discover - Decide - Defend. It equipped each VBS participant to Discover the truth of God's Word about Jesus Christ, encouraged them to make a decision to follow Chirst and gave them the evidence so they can give an answer for the reason for their faith. Attendance was great, the energy was amazing and the enitre staff did an awesome job of ministering to these kids. Also the largest every VBS missions offering was given to support our mission in Tanzania. Thanks to the VBS team for a great job.
Check out the VBS slide show on the Children's Ministry page.

"Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy loads, and I will give you rest" Matthew 11:28 (NCV)
Wouldn't it be nice if on the first day of every new year all the things we want to change would really change? Bad habits - gone. Bad Credit - history. Stress - out of here. Marriage trouble - solved. Money worries - puff. Weariness - dissolved. Tiredness - no more. Anxiety - goodbye. Relational headaches - done. If only it were just that easy, unfortunatley even for the most positive among us reality catches up all too soon. More often than not we drag ourselves into the next year.
The invitation of Jesus you read above speaks right into our caffeine driven culture filled with high stress, pressure, anxiety, worry, frustration, depression, crumbling families, dysfunction, and go, go, go. The words "rest" never sounded so good.
I happen to believe that when Jesus says something he really means it. He cares about all my life, both in the here and now and in eternity. If you are "Tired", if your load is crushing you, if you are looking for rest, for change, for peace maybe it is time for you to take up Jesus' invitation.
"Accept my teachings and learn from me, because I am gentle and hunble in spirit, and you will find rest for your lives (souls/psyches). The teaching that I ask you to accept is easy; the load I give you to carry is light" Matthew 11:29-30 (NCV, parenthesis mine)
I invite you to join is in 2014 to take Jesus at His Word.
To God be all the glory, love you, Pastor Hans
Our first Mariposa Youth Rally was great! Over 140 youth participated in games and fellowship together. There were four youth that accepted Christ. The youth enjoyed gathering together to listen to speakers and encourage each other in their faith. They were reminded to keep each other accountable in their walk with Christ. We're looking forward to our next Mariposa Rally!
Friday night Oct 18th lots of the ladies were decked out in their poodle skirts and scarfs for that 50's-60's look. A trivia contest brought back memories of hula-hoops. potato heads, bomb shelters, Elvis, Purple people eater and lots more. It was a great evening, wonderful fellowship and as always terrific home cookin'. Elvis may still be in chiropractic care from trying to move those hips like he onced did but I hear he will recover.
